Bedtime Stories

November 11, 2016 by Brenda Anderson Leave a Comment

Stories at bedtime, a way of stalling or something the kids really enjoy?  If you can instill in your children the love for books, they can learn anything.  A Book at our house is something we keep.  Very seldom do we get rid of one.  There is so much to learn from books.  If you can teach your children to read it seems other things they learn just comes easier.

Encourage their love of books

I love to watch little kids as they play and read.  What a sweet picture this is of a little girl that just turned two.    I love that she is enjoying “Slippers for Hannah” so much even if the book is upside down.

My kids loved books.  Some of their favorite books were taped and fixed and then taped again.  Not because they tore them up and were rough on them, but because they loved them and read them so much.  They just wore them out.

Cuddling-the best part

They enjoyed cuddling up on my lap and reading stories.  And I loved having them cuddled up on my lap to read.  It was a special bonding time.  While sitting there they learned what sounds the animals make, numbers, colors and other good lessons from their books.

Great for kids learning to read and the advanced readers.

Brenda’s Kids Books are great for kids learning to read and the advanced readers.

Adventures in the stories we read

As they grew the books we read changed with them. We moved into chapter books that we would read at bedtime.  Yes, they could read on their own, but it was fun to read together as we took adventures in the stories that we read.  We laughed, we were in suspense and sometimes I cried as we read.  We would read a chapter a night and then have to wait until the next night to see what happened.  The anticipation was fun as we waited.  Every year at Christmas time we would read a Christmas book.  What a sweet memory for me.

In this day and age with movies, electronics and all there is for kids to do on their own I hope books will always be important.  There is just something about holding that book in your hands and having something tangible to read.

Great family time

But even greater is snuggling with those little kids and grandkids as you read stories and enjoy the time together.  It is also fun to watch them as they learn to read and can share those adventures with their little brothers and sisters.  What a great time for them to bond as a family.

The simple things in life are important, it is what builds sweet memories that last a lifetime.  Not because of what you are doing, but because of the closeness and the way it makes you feel.

I hope you enjoy my blog post.  If you are interested in my books you can order them here on the shop page.  Write me a comment on the checkout page or send me an email, and I will sign the book and personalize it for you.  I always enjoy comments and reviews.
